Qualcomm Product Support Tool (QPST) is a program from Qualcomm for reprogramming cell phones with their chipset. QPST is copyrighted, and its use is strictly meant for developers, providers and maintenance technicians. There are many such individuals who will need an appropriate serial cable in order to connect it to their Palm Centro or Treo. The right serial cable for Palm Centro and Treo is PDCT5-H9 from the following web page: http://www.pcables.com/cat1.html. From the pcables.com web page, just click "Treo Data Cables Catalog" on the left. This web page has cables for Treos, but the same cable works on a Palm Centro as well. This is a great cable because one end plugs into the Palm Centro, and the other end has a 9 pin female Dsub connector, which plugs right into the serial port of your PC. Many folks have been struggling with a USB connection from QPST to their Palm, but there is no need for the struggle if you obtain a PDCT5-H9.



Use a Palm Centro as a RS232 Serial Terminal

Palm Centro is still the world's best portable RS232 Serial terminal. It's a great phone which, if you are like me, is with you all the time. So what happens when you happen to need to talk with a piece of machine gear which has an RS232 Serial Port? You're all ready to go! All you need is a terminal program such as CS Online. As well, you need a serial cable. For the Palm Centro, click Treo Data Cables Catalog along the left of this page and you can get a PDC65-M9-47HT-6 from the top of the page. This is a great cable because one end plugs into the Palm Centro, and the other end has a 9 pin male Dsub connector. This type of Dsub is the same as is found on a standard PC serial port. Almost any type of serial gear will have a "PC Serial Data Cable" available, which is compatible with this.
